How are your lampshades made?
Kookolki panel lampshades are all handmade from cotton and linen fabrics which have been backed with PVC panels and glued to the frames. The edges are finished with grosgrain ribbon and fabric trim, apart from some of the drum shades which have hand-rolled edges. Our tailored shades are made from cotton or silk fabric, which is painstakingly stretched and stitched onto frames bound with cotton tape, these shades are also fully lined.
What sort of bulb should I use with my Kookolki lampshade?
We recommend the use of maximum 60 watt bulbs with our larger shades (20cm diameter and over) and 40 watt bulbs with our smaller shades. Or use a low watt eco bulb and everyone will be happy. Our panel lampshades are backed with UV stable and flame retardant PVC which has been tested and passed the glow wire test carried out by the Lighting Association.
Will your lampshades fit my lamp/ceiling pendant?
The description of each lampshade in our blog specifies whether the shade has a UK standard or an EU sized fitting. This refers to the size of the hole in the frame that fits onto the bulb holder. A UK standard size has a smaller diameter and will not fit onto lamps with a larger EU sized bulb holder (including lamps made by Ikea). Most of our vintage shaped shades have UK sized fittings, whereas our drum lampshades come with removable adaptor rings and would fit either size of fitting. Please contact us if you have any queries regarding this.
Can I use your lampshades for ceiling pendants as well as table lamps?
We always specify in our description whether each lampshade is suitable for use with a table lamp, standard lamp or a ceiling pendant. Most of the frames we use are only useable on lamp bases, due to their shape. Sometimes we make up a larger drum shade to use as a ceiling pendant or, where the fabric can go either way up, a drum can simply be turned whichever way you require. It is always worth contacting us if you see a fabric that you particularly like on one of our lampshades, we may have more that we could make up into a ceiling pendant drum shade for you.
